TOMATO
Climate
15°C – 25°C
Soil
Except heavy clay soils, remaining all soils will get suitable for tomatoes. Mix compost manure and garden wastage such as dried leaves along with soil which acts as fertilizers.
Sowing
Plant seeds deeply into the soil by leaving at least 2 feet gap between each seed and cover with soil on top again. Cover all the plants with cloth, bubble wrap or with plastic covers, but make sure it won’t touch the plant. The main reason behind covering plants is to retain heat and keep the plants warmth overnight.
Germination happens after 1 to 2 weeks of sowing seeds. Warmer temperature helps in faster germination of seeds compare to that of cooler temperature. Once plants starts getting generated, tie up the plant with a wooden stick or rod holding beside ensure for a better growth and also it supports plant to grow vertically.
Weeding
Generally weeds are not a problem for tomato plants, as organic compost is used, but monitoring crop regularly and do hand weeding helps in a healthy crop.
Irrigation
Drip irrigation system is one of the most effective ways for watering tomato plants. It allows water run through each plant and deliver it directly to the roots of the plant. Don’t flood the plants, water twice a day only to moisten the soil.
Harvesting
After 60-90 days, crop is ready for harvesting.
CARROT
Climate
15°C – 22°C
Soil
Carrot crops are more compatible with sandy soil.
Sowing
Before sowing, dig area to a depth and let the compost settle down properly. Start sowing the seeds by leaving at least 2-4 inches of gap in between. Seeds takes time to germinate, so be patient.
Weeding
Hand weeds between rows regularly, but be careful while weeding don’t crush the leafs, as the smell attracts flies.
Irrigation
Carrots doesn’t require a lot of water. Over watering might damage a plant. Water, only if the top layer of soil becomes dry.
Fertilizers
DAP(contains both nitrogen & phosphorus) and Potassium, add 50-75 kilos of DAP and 50 kilos of potassium for 1 acre of land.
Harvesting
Carrots are ready to harvest after 60-80 days of sowing.
LEMON
Climate
15°C – 30°C
Soil
More compatible with red soil, black soil and sand. Also mix cow manure to the soil before sowing the seeds or seedlings.
Sowing
Sow the seedlings by leaving 200 inches of gap between each seed.
Weeding
When it comes to weeding, lemon trees shouldn’t have a big weed problem, as organics compost is already been used in the soil.
Irrigation
Water flow should be continuous.
Fertilizers
Applying super-phosphate, urine and potassium twice a year to the crop is necessary.
Harvesting
After 3 years, the crop will get ready for harvesting.
POTATO
Climate
15°C – 25°C
Soil
Potatoes can be grown in all types of soil, but it should be well-drained. Well-drained soil is a soil that allows water to drain with-in 2-3 hours without water pooling. To make soil well-drained, mix compost manure and dried leaves to the soil before sowing the seeds.
Sowing
Sow the seeds by leaving 10-12 inches of gap between each seed and with a depth of 4-6 inches into the soil.
Weeding
Weeds get destroyed with the inclusion of manure and garden wastage to the soil, but monitor crops regularly and do weeding if necessary.
Irrigation
Potatoes doesn’t require watering when rainfall or in cooler days, it should be only watered once in 2 days when temperature is too high to keep the soil moist.
Fertilizers
Crops should be supplied with 60-75 kilos of DAP and 50 kilos of potassium for 1 acre of land along with organic fertilizers which are already added to the soil while sowing.
Harvesting
Crop will get ready for harvesting after 70-120 days of planting.
